20 Incredibly Useful and Truthful Tips for Navigating the Waters of eHarmony (or IUTTNWE for short)

THINGS MEN SAY: My good blog/twitter friend Ronda just signed up for my beloved eHarm. I’m so excited for her and at the same time I feel I have so much wisdom to share. I started to write my tips down as a comment to her, and decided to finish them up here for all to enjoy.

So without further ado, I give you my Incredibly Useful and Truthful Tips for Navigating the Waters of eHarmony. Or UITTNWE for short.

Tip #1: Don’t be afraid to close someone out for any reason. Just because you are matched doesn’t mean he isn’t weird. And let’s be honest, we’re all little weird, but some styles of weird aren’t compatible.

I was specifically referring to the daily matching query as being "lazy" lately. It is a given they are rather slow as a company to make changes to the site. That may be acceptable for a brick and mortar business but if the website IS your business...you should be on top of it. No excuses. I …

Q&A: Will I get telemarketing calls from eHarmony?

Yes, if you’re lucky.

eHarmony has an Outbound sales team and, unless you tell them NOT to call you, you may get a phone call from them to “assist you with your account” (such as tell you why you ought to subscribe again).

In fact, they’re hiring a Premium Services Sales Rep right now who needs to make a huge volume of calls. Did you tell them you’re high income?

There is no OPT-OUT button on the site or during the registration process. To never receive phone calls from eHarmony, you have to call them. Even then, you have to hope they haven’t given your phone number yet to an Acme Telemarketing Company. Their privacy policy gives them permission to do this.

No, you cannot change your phone number on the site unless you purchase another subscription.

Q&A: Why are there no thumbnail photos in eHarmony’s My Matches page?

Answer:

eHarmony says,

eHarmony is a unique online relationship service, as we focus on creating serious, long-term relationships. With our service, we try to emphasize that it is what’s inside a person that is important, as that tends to be a stronger predictor of a successful long term relationship.

This is also why eHarmony does not have thumbnail photos in match listings. Indeed, while one may say, “It’d be easier to remember whom I communicating with if there were photos,” the truth is, given a screen of thumbnails, most people will prioritize those who look attractive.

However, we’ve heard from the EH Product Team that they are seriously considering adding thumbnail photos, so things may change soon. When eHarmony becomes a beauty contest, everyone will need flawless perfect photos more than ever.

Q&A: Does eHarmony limit the number of matches I will receive?

Answer:

eHarmony’s VP International Sean Cornwell told SmartCompany.com.au that eHarmony Australia is “very deliberate feeding people between five and a maximum of seven compatible matches every day.”

We offer our word that it’s the same for all eHarmony sites. One month will only produce up to 217 matches, even in super-densely-populated Hoboken, New Jersey.

On the other hand, above all factors, your age, gender and geography (the 3 Gs) ultimately determine how many matches you will ever receive. See our Match Settings page for tips to get more matches.

@fernando, your writing albeit often hard to decipher, does contain some gems. (I even read your blog.) But, to be honest, the only thing I have read from you are all the problems various dating/personals sites have/do, etc. It would be nice if you could actually give some solutions sometimes …
