(For everyone’s information, eHarmony changes its terms and conditions of service from time to time, without telling its members and customers beforehand. Also, eHarmony never tells anyone what the changes were. In October 2008, I got sick and tired of this and decided to use a “web page monitoring service” to watch for changes to their TOS page (plus a few others), and then of course report them here. This will be a regular column under this blog’s “Site changes” category. I hope you find it useful.)
For the first time ever, eHarmony informs its customers that they changed their terms and conditions of business. In the past two days, several members (not all of them) received an advisory email from eHarmony with a summary of the changes last April 25. Honestly I am stupefied!
Click here for the exact changes to the policy (pdf, 366kb).

I’m trying to renew (again), and I noticed a change to eHarmony’s website. Usually, I go to My Settings, then Account Settings, where I can change the auto-renew settings or enter a promo code in. This is no longer available, it appears. Now, at the bottom of the page under “Subscription Status” it says the following:
| Your subscription expires on: |
February 3, 2012 |

| This subscription will auto-renew at: |
It does not auto-renew |
| Reactivate My Subscription at: |
1 Month Membership for a total price of $29.95. |

eHarmony PHB: “Here’s an idea: let’s monitor each of our users’ actions, save them permanently and then sell their behaviour to the ACME company. I had a meeting with ACME today and they offered us millions for it, monthly.”
eHarmony minion: “Great idea, sir … but this violates our privacy policy.”

Hello everyone:
I’m a long time user here on eharmony and today I was trying to complete sending some answers to a match in the Closed Ended Questions stage when I was logged off, when I tried to log back on, I see EH made another change to their site, it added a button underneath a match photo’s to send a smile, so I thought to myself let me go ahead and do that. Unfortunately I see it’s the icebreaker that says “Your profile brought a smile to my face”, have anybody else noticed this change or is it just me.
I can say that one of the bad things about being on EH is the fact that when they roll out a change, they do it without telling anybody, in fact I went to the help topics to see if there is something mentioned about “The Smile Button” and guess what, I don’t see a thing.
I thought I would let folks know about another change here on EH!

This is huge. We haven’t seen this in our accounts yet, but some accounts are reporting that the “My Home” page now shows the date of last activity of each match.
- Homer, Last active today
- Marge, Last active yesterday
- Lisa, Last active December 21, 2008
Ooohh, subscribers in areas where there are few subscribers will be pissed. We will update this post once we get screenshots.

Can you guess who had been denouncing eHarmony Inc.'s sites for fraud in several Consumers' Associations worldwide? The automatic rebilling clause will be next. …
