Religion hacking for more matches?

On the subject of trying to get more matches (local matches, in my case), I’m curious if anyone else has experimented with this.

Does changing your advertised faith (if you follow one) to “Spiritual” tend to increase the number of matches, since it seems to be a “catch-all” group?

I seem to see “Spiritual” as the second largest or just as large as Christians and I seem to see the same trend perusing Match.com and other sites.  I’m wondering if more “Spiritual” folks are looking for individuals not very dogmatic about religion (which I can truthfully say about myself and why I don’t feel it is really a misrepresentation).

In my case, my experiment was to narrow my match radius to 120 miles (from all the USA) and try finding new matches with my religion set to “Spiritual” instead of my more specific setting.  My thought was to see if having a specific religion was a “rule-out” for some locals.  “No new matches found” was the result I got.  Hrmph.  Maybe I have to leave it changed for longer than a few minutes for it to take effect but then I worry about what my existing communicating/interested matches may think about me seeing it change back and forth…

I’ve already set the drinking and smoking attributes as liberally as I can bear for a workable relationship.

I’m running out of ideas of how to get more matches and thus, more matches that will respond to communication.

I did a lot of setting hacking back when the flow of matches dribbled into my account. Some of it worked, some didn’t, one became a catastrophic deal-breaker.

Feel free to change the visible settings back and forth between 12:00-6:00am, local time.

Of course, “Find New Matches” is useless if you already have your day’s supply. You do use the eHarmony Blog Script and the other Match Settings tricks, right?

The results of this tool are TOTALLY inaccurate, but this might give you some idea of how things might change if you change your match settings:

I’m familiar with the various match setting tricks and I’ve got them set as liberally as I think I could stand in a person (maybe a bit more).

I’m generally logged in a couple times a day and I found that clicking the find matches button rarely got me any matches, unless I had not gotten any that day. I do recall being especially frustrated one day and I think the fourth or fifth time, it sent me one, which seemed like a “pity” match (i.e. the system loosened up most criteria way beyond what I would accept) and ended up being an immediate close, which sort of discouraged me using from using it like that (many times in one day). I’ll think about adding that to my regimen for the next go round (if there is one…I think my subscription lapsing is a sign to take a break from the frustration and see what comes of the few out-of-states I’m connected with, if they fizzle, I’ll consider signing back up when they send me a deal).

    Scott:
I’ve played with the date predictor when I first saw it and found that I was below what I should be getting by a good margin, taking into account as many variables as I could to reduce my potential number of matches but it’s been a while since I ran the numbers.

    Nice quote, eHB. :)

Yeah, the sheer numbers that the tool produces are probably going to be inaccurate. But it will provide you with a “best guess” figure as to how changing something in your match settings will change your outcome.

Which reminds me… the last revision of the tool was in December. I should probably update it. My last (casual) look at quantcast indicates things have gotten harder for guys – but I could be wrong.

Overall, “spiritual” brought me more matches (20+) over the period of a month than listing my specific religion did the prior month.
