eHarmony Blog now accepts OpenID

OpenID now acceptedOkay, okay, everybody, I give in. I’ve postponed this long enough.

I’d like to announce that eHarmony Blog now accepts OpenID.

What is OpenID?

No, RelyID has no connection to OpenID.

OpenID is a new, better, faster way to sign into websites. In OpenID-enabled sites, web users do not need to remember traditional items of identity such as username and password. Instead, they only need to be registered with any OpenID “identity provider” (IdP).

The biggest identity provider at the moment is Yahoo!, and many expect Google to fully follow anytime soon. Read Yahoo!’s OpenID page to learn how this stuff works. Don’t use Yahoo! if you don’t want to; the official OpenID site lists several more providers, like AOL and Livejournal.

The 2008 way to post articles

Posting an article or entry on eHarmony Blog is easier and faster than ever with OpenID. All you have to do is:

  1. Click Contribute.
  2. Provide us an identity via OpenID. (This takes 1 to 10 seconds.)
  3. Start writing!

Read this post for more details.

Meanwhile, all OpenID-authenticated comments appear immediately in the site. Do you want that? Good.

There are over 400 million OpenID accounts out there right now, so this is a good thing. I’ve sat on the fence long enough.

I already have an account on eHB; how do I link my OpenIDs to it?

Use Your Identity URLs admin page.

eHarmony and OpenID

I hope someday eHarmony adopts this technology too. At present, eHarmony.com, eHarmony’s Marriage Wellness Program, and eHarmony Advice use three separate logins. That’s terrible! Help me to demand it.
