eHarmony announces Who Has Viewed Me, promises to bring it back

eHarmony announces WHVM yesterday:

Wondering which of your matches have been checking out your profile page? We thought so. That’s why eHarmony is introducing the “Who’s Viewed Me?” feature. This service allows you to see who’s been viewing your page within the past two weeks. “Who’s Viewed Me?” is ideal for taking that next step in the eHarmony process. Seeing who’s viewed your profile will give you that little extra nudge you need to start communicating with your matches. And if you need to get a second or third look at one of your matches before you initiate communication, the other person will only see that you’ve viewed them, not how many times. Want to stay incognito? That’s okay too. Simply switch your settings to “Anonymous” and your matches won’t be able to tell that you are checking them out on the sly.

But where did it go? NorthernLove found this answer in the eH FAQ:

We are excited to hear you are interested in our new Who Has Viewed Me Feature. We apologize for any inconvenience however, this feature is currently unavailable.

We hope to have the Who Has Viewed Me tool accessible for you as soon as possible; please check your profile for updates periodically. Once this feature becomes available again, you will be able to see the Who Has Viewed Me tab on your eHarmony home page.

Let me clarify again that the feature shows the date of your last visit to the profile (or the previous communications with the match). It doesn’t show how many visits you made. Unless your match checks that list every night and notes it, she won’t know you visit her profile almost daily.

There has been numerous opinion of this new feature. Among them is praise because it shows which matches are active, and censure because it encourages game-playing. What do you think?

I think it is fine, and its not something I would worry about. On the other hand, I liked using that greasemonkey thing to put the pictures next to the profiles. But if I use it now, it makes it look like I am ‘stalking’ and viewing their profile every time I view a page they are on. :) Oh well I will need to give up the greasemonkey add on.

I think the who’s viewed me is pointless and creepy…if someone has viewed me and has not taken the next step to contact me there is probably a reason…”excuse me, I noticed you looked at my profile but didn’t start the communication process…” doesn’t that scream desperation? Eharmony is starting to have the same feel at Match, NOT a good thing.

Only 3% of eharmony members get married, which means Eharmony is NO BETTER than any other dating service and its dues are WAY too high. Let’s do something about it. I keep getting emails from women who want to meet me but I can’t see their pictures because I’m not a member. But they think I can! And so these “Free Communication Weekends” are there to build up a FAKE MEMBER BASE so people will pay outrageous monthly fees thinking eharmony rocks when it TOTALLY doesn’t. To save these poor women from thinking I can respond back, I just REMOVED MY PHOTO from my profile. I suggest ALL OTHERS NON-MEMBERS do the same. If every non-member does this, I assume that more than 1/2 the photos will come down, followed by 1/2 their members leaving, followed by eharmoney monthy rates dropping by about 1/2, which is where they SHOULD be. Good luck and REMOVE YOUR PICTURES ASAP non-members!
