Tips and tricks: If a match isn’t responding, don’t put him or her on Hold

Today’s advice sounds simple enough, but few people know how this eHarmony feature works. The “On Hold” page doesn’t explain it either.

If your match hasn’t responded in a while, don’t put them on hold.

Putting matches on hold totally blocks them from sending you a response.

The hold reason “You have not responded to my communication in a timely manner,” is one of the oldest and worst design flaws in eHarmony’s guided communication process. It gives the illusion to the person putting his match on hold that his match will receive a notice (she won’t), see that she was put on hold (you don’t bump up in her Recent Activity list), and possibly prompting a response (she can’t). What a disaster!

When you puts a match on hold, all he or she can do is close the match, nothing else. So don’t put a match on hold if you want a reply. Hmph, if only eHarmony fixes this problem with the site!

When I am going to be away for 2 or more days (like this past Memorial Day weekend), I add a line at the top of my “about me” that says I will be away from the ___ to the ___, and therefore unable to respond to any communications during that time. Then I add that I will resume communication as soon as I return.

Seems to work for those who click back on my profile.

utter dispair, utter dispair, utter dispair. Eharmony should be paying me for my wasted time, first I get all wrong matches and now I get no matches. Someone needs to take the rope off of the wheel and stop the boat from going around and around in circles.
