Markus Frind finds details of eHarmony operations

Markus Frind, CEO and operator of Plentyoffish.com found some technical specs of eHarmony’s datacenter operations from a job posting for Director of Web Operations:

  • 350 million pageviews per month.
  • 30 million emails per month.
  • 1,000 transactions per second in DB
  • DB has 15 million+ files
  • multiple data centres (one of which has 140 servers)
  • Flash, J2EE and Oracle

I remember not too long ago that Friendster fell to its knees because it was based on J2EE technology. They had to either buy more hardware or switch to another programming language, such as PHP. They chose the latter. The J2EE-Oracle platform haven’t won any awards for giving the best bang for the buck. Did you notice that eHarmony.com became sluggish during the last Free Communication Weekend?
