New feature: Date of last activity

This is huge. We haven’t seen this in our accounts yet, but some accounts are reporting that the “My Home” page now shows the date of last activity of each match.

  • Homer, Last active today
  • Marge, Last active yesterday
  • Lisa, Last active December 21, 2008

Ooohh, subscribers in areas where there are few subscribers will be pissed. We will update this post once we get screenshots.

Oh no :( . I don’t like this. I actually like eHarmony, in part, because until now, it hasn’t shown last activity. I don’t need everyone to know when I last logged in, etc. And I don’t want to see when other people were last active/logged in…because then I’ll wonder why, if they haven’t responded to a communication, I haven’t heard from them…knowing there are probably dozens of reasons why, but assuming possibly that they’re just not interested. :< Boooo. Sad eHarmony is doing this.

If eHarmony implements the “date of last activity” feature, it will be for legal reasons.
Match is now being sued (in USA) mainly for showing inactive profiles.

In a recent article, the CEO for Latam Countries, Mr. Claudio Gandelman from Match Argentina recognized 75% inactive profiles.

I got this feature a few days ago. It is rolled out to groups of members at a time.

As the feature ONLY shows up on your “Home” page, it does not give you any new info. It only shows up for members who have done something…sent you a communication, changed their profile, or added a photo. Well, duh! They had to log into their account to do that stuff.

Where it would be REALLY useful to have that feature is on your “New Matches” tab! Or have the “Recent Activity” filter list people by when they most recently logged in, rather than when the most recent communication (from either side) happened.

After looking at this very carefully in the last few days…I don’t think it’s the huge “invasion of privacy” some people fear, nor is it the “great new tool” some people had hoped. It’s a big “meh” from me.
