eHarmony celebrates 10 years of creating love

6,000 photos

  • Two TV ads directed by Errol Morris entitled “What If?” and “If It’s Love” start runs today. The music “If It’s Love” is by the English band Squeeze. Nearly 100 people participated in the 8-day Los Angeles shoot.
  • eHarmony asked couples to send in photos of themselves. The 14,000 photographs submitted will be shown in an online gallery. 6,000 will be shown in a giant billboard in Times Square.
  • “A motorcade of pedicabs featuring 50 couples in the campaign is scheduled this week.” Details of this are yet unannounced.
  • The site also put up an interactive timeline of the last ten years at http://www.eharmony.com/love/ourstory. In the timeline, eHarmony Advice, eDarling, WeddingBee, JustMommies, Project Wedding, and discontinued offerings like eHarmony Bookstore, eHarmony Marriage and FertileThoughts are never mentioned.
  • The company also released the results of a Harris Interactive study today with many tall claims:
    • 4.77% of all new marriages in the United States resulted from eHarmony introductions between January 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009.
    • On average, 542 eHarmony members marry every day in the United States.
    • Sample set for the preceding is 7,994 respondents aged 20-54 who were married between January 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009.
    • During the survey’s survey period, 1,130,006 people in the United States are in a non-married monogamous relationship started by eHarmony.
    • During the survey’s survey period, 43.99% of newlyweds who met through an online dating service were matched by eHarmony.
    • During the survey’s survey period, 25.75% of newlyweds who met online were matched by eHarmony.
    • Sample set for the preceding is 136,203 respondents aged 20 to 54.

  • eHarmony plans to spend 25 to 30 million dollars in advertising in the next four months.
  • eHarmony Brazil http://www.eharmony.com.br/ will launch within this month.

“…, eDarling, …. are never mentioned.”
No because eDarling (eHarmony owns 30%) is eHarmony rebranded and IMPROVED for 9 European countries: Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland.

“eHarmony Brazil will launch within this month.”
Match, Meetic, Be2 and others had been spending millions of U.S. Dollars since years and until now they do not understand the Latin American culture.
South Americans do mostly not have credit cards.
The ones who have credit cards, do mostly not use them for subscriptions.

    ————————————————-
From 2009 eHarmony Marriage Metrics Study:
148,311 marriages and 1,130,006 non-married, monogamous relationships (ESTIMATED TO BE) started by eHarmony, between January 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009.

I do not trust that because:

eHarmony is a 10 years old obsolete site.

The success rate of eHarmony is less than 10%.

eHarmony is only supported by a big marketing budget and not by serious scientific evidence.

10 LONG YEARS AND eHarmony DOES NOT HAVE ANY SCIENTIFIC PAPER FOR PUBLIC AND ACADEMIC SCRUTINY OF FINDINGS.

eHarmony is not “scientifically proven” because eHarmony Labs could not prove eHarmony’s matching algorithm can match prospective partners who will have more stable and satisfying relationships -and very low divorce rates- than couples matched by chance, astrological destiny, personal preferences, searching on one’s own, or other technique as the control group in a peer reviewed Scientific Paper.

Moreover the entire Online Dating Industry for serious daters in 1st World Countries is a HOAX, performing as a Big Online Casino, with a low effectiveness/efficiency level of their matching algorithms (less than 10%),

    Fernando,

I can’t claim to have all of the evidence, but my wife of a year and a half met through eHarmony, and our first baby is on the way. I am extremely grateful.

The 10% success number you cite may be true, but if it is, I would guess it’s because there are a large number of people that sign up for a free trial and then cancel their membership. If you are on the site for a few months, you can quickly figure out who those people are. I bet the success rate is significantly higher among paying members because they are more committed to the process.

Again, I freely admit I have no facts to back that up, only my personal experience. I met a number of people who were serious about finding a spouse on eHarmony, and luckily, my wife was one of them.

We are one of the 14,000 couples featured in the mosaic– A very cool idea.
