US “Free but not free” Communication Event improves upon Canada’s FGCE (really.)

ScottK invited us to watch this video earlier this evening:

Hahaha. That’s probably the look of the Canadians’ faces last May.

To its credit, eHarmony seems to have learned lessons from the infuriating Canada event and has made it clear on their home page what trialling visitors get during the promotional event. At least a bit. Have a look at the US home page now:

Do you see the “*Does not include eHarmony Mail” message, in large 14 point Arial? No you don’t? Check the other screenshots. Yes, it’s large enough, but the message is below the “fold” (the first screenful) so many visitors and many subscribers will STILL not see it.

In addition, to figure out what in tarnation eHarmony Mail is, the trialling visitor has to find and click the tiny (11 point) “Help” link right at the very bottom of the page, amidst 32 other links. Fortunately, the first three “most popular” topics on the Help page are related to the event:

  • How do I take advantage of the Free Guided Communication Event?
  • Free Guided Communication Event
  • Features/Benefits of the Free Guided Communication Event

and one of the three is a clear chart of what trialling visitors get and do not get.

In conclusion, eHarmony made some improvements, which I hope will lessen the annoyed visitors and abused subscribers. eHarmony US has at least ten times the traffic of eHarmony Canada; let’s see if a ruckus breaks out in the next few days.

UPDATE: Thousands of eHarmony affiliates spread misinformation

Over 12 thousand eHarmony affiliates are hard at work posting announcements of the FGCE, hoping to get a few bucks when someone clicks them and registers with eHarmony, but NONE OF THEM are saying eHarmony Mail is excluded.
