Q&A: Joining eharmony from outside north america?

Barton asks

i want to join eharmony from the middle east…
will they even allow me to join?
will i receive any matches considering the fact they match people by compatibility or will i be left all alone because i live so far?

Answer:

eHarmony claims to have registrants in 200 countries, and given that the United Nations only has 192 member nations, I’d say there’s a good chance that eHarmony has profiles in your country.

Will they even allow me to join? Well, it depends. Legally speaking, eHarmony cannot accept registrants from nations under US Trade Embargo. That’s why Cuba, Iran and North Korea are not in the list of countries on the eHarmony home page. You’re not from Iran, are you?

Will I receive any matches? Above all things your age, gender and geography (the 3 Gs) determine how many matches you ultimately will ever receive. By deliberate design, there is no “search and browse” feature in eHarmony. Users cannot find out if eHarmony has members within 100 miles of Koyukuk, Alaska. The only thing users can do is register and wait, and wait, and wait, for matches that eHarmony sends them. Distance settings must be reflexive: You can “expand your Distance settings” to the whole world, but if your so-called compatible matches put their distance settings to 30 miles, eHarmony won’t hook you up with them.

If you only intend to date locally, does eHarmony advertise in your area? The amount of local advertising drives how many register in eHarmony locally.

The best advice is to register on the site — don’t pay for a subscription yet — and expand your Match Settings as wide as possible. Our Match Settings article has a ton of tips. Then wait, and wait, and wait. The waiting period will give you an idea of how many matches your 3 Gs will ever receive. One every day? Three per week? Seven per month? Reviewing your matches is also the best way to tell if eHarmony’s patented compatibility algorithm is right for you.

Two or three weeks ought to be enough time to help you decide if eHarmony is worth the money for a subscription.

Because there is no “search and browse”, there is no quick and easy way to tell if eHarmony is worth your while. Good luck on what you decide.

    eHarmony uses:
    1) normative Big5 test to assess personality.

    *** eHarmony U.S.
The test should be in English for the United States and the Norm for the United States (sample of individuals with the same demographic characteristics of the United States).

    *** eHarmony Canada
The test should be in English for Canada and the Norm for Canada (sample of individuals with the same demographic characteristics of Canada).

*** eHarmony U.K. claims “Scientifically adapted for the UK in collaboration with the Oxford Internet Institute at the University of Oxford”
The test should be in English for the United Kingdom and the Norm for the United Kingdom (sample of individuals with the same demographic characteristics of the United Kingdom).

    *** eHarmony Australia
The test should be in English for Australia and the Norm for Australia (sample of individuals with the same demographic characteristics of Australia).

    2) Dyadic Adjustment Scale (invented by Dr. Graham B. Spanier in 1976) to calculate compatibility (similarity) between prospective mates.

    3) Guided Communication Process as an appendix of its main matching algorithm. The Guided Communication Process is a mutual filtering step.

And if that is not enough, who could know if eHarmony is solely intended for White Caucasian persons from AngloSaxon origin and Catholic as were the founders of a glorious nation, who arrived on the Mayflower?
