How to get a refund from eHarmony (The Complete Procedure)

We’re starting the New Year 2010 by compiling the list of ways to request and receive a full refund from eHarmony. It’s full of tactics and tricks, so don’t tell eHarmony you read them here.

We’d love to hear how you did with our tips. There’s a survey to answer at the end of this article.

In a Nutshell

Whether you get your money back depends on two things:

  1. Have 3 days passed since the payment went through?
  2. Have you used it at all, even once, since the payment went through?

eHarmony’s system displays these two things right away to the rep, so be careful with denying either of them. If you answer No to both, then you can expect a refund — so be firm and ask for it. Otherwise, there’s a section below that explains your alternatives.

Why does eHarmony give only 3 days to cancel? Because that’s all they have to. California Civil Code 1694.1 is the law.

You have to call. Sorry, overseas readers, eHarmony’s age-long policy won’t do refunds over email. Yes, that really sucks.

The phone number

The phone number to call (and alternative numbers) is in this article.

The cancellation deadline

If you paid three days ago, you need to read how the site defines the cancellation period US CA AU UK CP and know for sure when your cancellation deadline is. For eHarmony US, it is 11:59pm Pacific time. If you paid three days ago, it’s best to know your rights, in case you chance upon a clueless rep.

UPDATE: Does the three-day cancellation apply to extensions or renewals?

Yes. If the rep tells you that the policy applies only to the initial subscription, the rep is wrong, for two reasons:

  1. Their terms say, “For Singles Services, the day that you submit a completed subscription form will be the date of this Agreement.”
  2. The California law provides you three days after signing ANY agreement or ANY offer for dating services.

Don’t get sidetracked by an mistrained rep.

What to expect? A lot of convincing

According to a former CS rep.:

“In case you wonder why the reps try so hard to convince you to stay, unless you’re a success story, it’s because their retention rate is part of their performance rating. Reps are expected to retain at least 50% of the customers who contact them for a refund, to close their account or turn off their auto renew feature. Some, not all, of the calls are recorded and the rep is also graded on how many scoring points they hit in the call (greeting, offer to help, empathy, suggestions, etc.) and there are points for following a specific path for refunds. They can’t just skip to, ‘OK, sorry it didn’t work, here’s your money back.’ They have to make certain offers and once they’re refused, if you’re eligible for a refund, you’ll get it. All of this is tied to job performance. So, when you call for a refund on an automatic renewal, the rep has to first deny the refund, then work from there, but if they don’t deny first, they lose 15% on their performance score for that call. They do NOT have scripts, but they do have certain points they have to include in each call.”

Subscriptions: How to get refunds within 3 days of purchase

If you call within 3 days of your payment, the rep is mandated to offer you three to four alternatives to save the sale. He would offer to extend the “cancellation period” or “trial period”. He would offer as much as three additional free months. Say no to these offers and he will process your full refund.

Returning subscriptions, Basic or Total Connect. If you call within 3 days of your re-subscription, it’s hit or miss. The Terms of Service page says nothing specifically about refunds to returning subscriptions. After all, a contemptous rep can say, “If you’re that dissatisfied with it, why did you return?” See the “Past Three Days” section below for guidance.

Auto Renewals: How to get refunds

Here, it is IMPORTANT that after the renewal you do not use your account to communicate or reply to anyone.

Readers reported that reps can see on their system when you last logged in, when you turned off autorenew, when you last received a match, and when you last communicated to any match. Don’t make up stories and get into a argument.

If all you do is go into your account, turn off Auto-Renew, then call, then you can request eHarmony a courtesy refund. Courtesy means that you’re not entitled to a refund and you were supposed to be aware that eHarmony will renew your subscription automatically. Courtesy also means that the rep may not give it next time it happens again.

Premium Services: How to get refunds

Premium Personality Profile: How to get a full refund: Do not, and I say, do not, finish the PPP questionnaire or view your Premium Personality Profile. Call instead and ask for a full refund and you should get it.

RelyID: How to get a full refund: Do not, and I say, do not, verify your name and city. Call instead and ask for a full refund and you should get it.

Secure Call: How to get a full refund: The rep can review and see your call use history and log, so do not ever use or attempt to use the service. Call instead and ask for a full refund and you should get it.

Secure Call Renewals: How to get a full refund: Here, do not use the service or attempt to call a match after the renewal date. If all you do is turn off autorenew and then call, the rep should be able to give you a full refund of the renewal.

Profile Advisor: How to get a full refund: The first step in this service is receiving an email from the profile writer with clarificatory questions to let him or her rewrite your profile. Do not respond that email. Call instead and ask for a refund.

How to get a refund past three days of purchase

In this case, you need to persuade them with one of three things:

The site’s terms and conditions — which any court will tell you that you should have read — say that you had three days to cancel. The best strategy is to begin the conversation with your situation and circumstances, then ask for your refund. Not the defensive, other way around. Obviously you can only have ONE set of circumstances; You cannot change gears in the middle of the call.

What might work:

  1. You never used it — “I forgot my password and requested it three times but I never got any response.”
  2. A member used your credit card without your permission.
  3. Someone signed you up without your permission.
  4. Your 16-year-old son signed you up.
  5. You’re actually married.
  6. You’re actually 17.
  7. You lost your job or are in dire financial shape.
  8. You lost your limbs in an accident last weekend.
  9. A earthquake / hurricane / fire / flood / tornado / typhoon hit you.
  10. You’re gay, and you registered on the wrong site.
  11. Your sister calls to tell them you are gravely hospitalized… or dead.
  12. (For RelyID) You’re actually living outside the States.

In all of these, the rep cannot disprove what you said.

What won’t work:

  1. You’re receiving no matches or not enough matches.
  2. You don’t like your matches.
  3. It’s your third scammer this month.
  4. Your matches don’t fit your preferences: too short, tall, heavyset, unattractive, low income.
  5. Your matches aren’t responding.

If you are polite and respectful, the rep should be giving you a full refund (You’re 17, or dead), or be offering you a compromise, such as shorter plan and a partial refund. It depends on the rep. According to member postings, complaining about the service won’t help you get your refund.

If the tactic doesn’t work:

If the rep refuses your refund, you need to drop the call and get “accidentally” disconnected, so that the rep doesn’t note in your account that you are seeking a refund. Then use the following strategy:

HARASS YOUR MATCHES. Yes, that’s right. Write offensive language on your messages to your matches. “You love ‘all-you-can-eat’ buffets, don’t you?” “Tell me that really isn’t your face.” “I wonder how your dik would taste like.” “Just reading your profile made me wet and hor-ny.” In a short time, eHarmony will act on complaints and kick you out and give you a full refund.

Yes it’s that simple and you’ve got nothing to lose.

Past three days of auto renewal: “Success Story” refunds and “Unable to Match” refunds

This last case is actually very common, because people only discover the renewal charge many weeks later when they receive their credit card statement.

In this case, you need to persuade them that you’ve quit long ago. Again it is IMPORTANT that after the renewal date you do not use your account to communicate or reply to anyone. If you have turned off matching before the autorenewal fired, be sure to remind the rep.

ALTERNATE TACTIC: Begin the call saying that you met somebody wonderful through the service and express your gratitude, then basking in happiness, ask your refund.

If the tactic doesn’t work:

Hang-up or get “accidentally” disconnected, and then call them again to request to retake the questionnaire. If it has been six months since you took it, the rep will immediately allow you to do it. Otherwise, the rep needs convincing.

RETAKE THE QUESTIONNAIRE and FAIL IT. Check “Very Dominant” on one page and “Very Passive” on another. Check “Very Depressed” and “Very Unhappy”. Check “Very Unable to Resolve Conflicts” and “Gets Mad Very Easily”. After you fail the questionnaire, call eHarmony again and ask for a refund.

When you and eHarmony cannot come to a resolution

The Fair Credit Billing Act

If you:

you can contact your bank and file a credit card dispute under the Federal Fair Credit Billing Act. This involves writing a letter to your bank. For details, read this Federal Trade Commission Advisory.

Other Consumer Laws

If you live in other states or provinces or countries, inform yourself of your consumer rights by contacting your local authorities. Directory of State Consumer Protection Offices. Directory of Provincial Consumer Affairs Offices in Canada. Worldwide Consumer Affairs Offices.

Okay, a sample

“Hi Ms. eHarmony Rep. I’m just calling to tell you guys that the recent snowstorm made me lose my job and all my life savings, but the good news is that I met an awesome boyfriend through eHarmony! Kevin is so kind to me and I think that he’s the one!! So not only can’t I afford eHarmony now, I no longer need the service! Can I get my $240 back? I appreciate it.”

Top tips

  1. Complaining about the service seldom helps. They can always fall back to telling you the service is as-is and not guaranteed.
  2. The best strategy is to begin the conversation with your situation and circumstances, then ask for your refund. Not the defensive, other way around.
  3. Be polite, friendly and patient. Say, “go ahead, and I will wait.”
  4. Reps are told to resolve all calls in one call. They don’t want you to call again.
  5. Reps leave permanent notes on your account after each phone call. If you think notes of your current phone call will give you trouble in the future, you must “accidentally” disconnect the call.
  6. Dawdle on the 50% refund. You’re halfway there, so stay polite and ask for a full refund.

  1. Thanks for the great advice. I called to cancel, and got my refund. The only offer they gave me was an extended 14 days of time in which I could cancel. I politely declined. Before I called them I made sure to remove my pictures, and turn off the match function. They of course told me about how much more effective the service is with pictures. But, once I told him I’d purposefully blanked everything out he took that as a sign of commitment to my quitting the service, and without further delay (no more sales pitches, or tips) he gave me my confirmation number.

What is eharmony’s customer service number to cancel???

  4. The phone number is in this article http://eharmony-blog.com/12 .

  5. Thanks for the tips given here. My account was auto renewed today, because I haven’t been on eharmony in awhile and didn’t delete my account. So I called today and asked them to refund the money charged today and to delete my account. I didn’t have to get mean, just persistent, and it wasn’t long before they gave me the full refund. And thanks for the tip of not settling for 50% refund!

by tumharijaan on Jun 12, 2010 at 11:33 am

  6. Thanks for the website.

I got a full refund because the auto renewal didn’t send me a notice telling me it was about to expire.

I immediately called them to tell them I’m out and they tried to only refund half of it until I insisted they refund all of it.

by Anonymous on Jun 21, 2010 at 6:14 am

  7. thanks for the tips!
Just got a full refund for auto-renewed subscription.
That was easy with your advice – I just had to reitereate 2-3 times that I was not planning to use the service anymore and would like a FULL refund (not 50%).
The lady rep was polite and I got a refund confirmation from Paypal as I was still on the phone with her.

  8. Does the aforementioned advice tips ONLY apply to auto renewals? I joined June 6th and pay each month. Think I can get a refund? I’m very disappointed in the service and feel as though I have wasted an investment.

by Stacy V on Jun 28, 2010 at 7:08 pm

  9. Stacy, follow the “How to get a refund past three days of purchase” section, that is, don’t use your disappointment with the service as your reason.

Before this, though, if you’re on a “monthly billing” plan it’s best to call them first separately to give them a different credit card number to bill. See note #5 of our promo codes page.

  10. Awesome advice! I called… told them I was married and that a friend set up the account for me. They instantly issued a full refund and closed my account. I didnt have to try and convince them and I didnt have to wait long. I was on the phone less than 5 min. Thanks!

by Michele on Jul 5, 2010 at 8:29 am

  11. I signed up three days ago for the three month membership. I called and told them that I’m back with my fiance he immediately closed my account and credited me back my $44.95. I was on the phone less than 5 min. Easy as pie….:)

  12. My account had just renewed after a 3 month initial plan, but I started dating someone 2 weeks before this. I told the representative that my plan had just auto renewed today and that I was dating someone and he first offered me a half refund, but then switched it to a full refund stating that he and eharmony did not wish to get in the way of any serious relationship.

by Ian on Jul 23, 2010 at 9:04 am

  13. My phone call was actually pretty quick and easy. The guy only offered me the 14 day trial period extension. Asked me why I’d like to cancel my subscription and whether I liked the service, asked if I was unsatisfied with my matches, and that was pretty much it. I basically told him that it wasn’t necessarily the service or my matches, said everything was okay, I’d just like to have a refund, aaaand that was it. Also, when I called, at first the automated response said they were experiencing high call volume because of the free communication event and suggested me to call back at a later time, I stayed on the line and literally 10 seconds later somebody picked up.

by Kevin on Jul 30, 2010 at 11:07 am

  14. I called and asked for a refund as I wasn’t getting many matches with pictures or of my ethnicity. On my first call I was disconnected after I asked to speak with a supervisor. I called back and got a supervisor by the name of Allison who was extremely rude and stated that she would not argue with me and had to get on to other customers!!!! She referred me to some email resolution specialist. He went through the same spill that the csr’s did until I told him that I had recorded the calls and planned on publicizing them. He then offered to give a FULL REFUND.smh. It shouldn’t have taken all of that. The site isn’t for everyone. I’m happy for those who have found mates, but it didn’t appeal to me at all. Thank goodness I was able to get a refund.

    by Jackie-O on Aug 15, 2010 at 4:38 pm

  15. This is why we said that complaining about the service (see the “What won’t work” section) won’t help you get a refund. Congratulations, Jackie-O, that you got your money back!

by eharmonyblog on Aug 15, 2010 at 4:54 pm

  16. Worked great, they tried to give half refund, I said I couldn’t really afford it right now, put me on hold to “talk to manager” and he said it was ok. Got full refund. Thanks

  17. FULL REFUND SUCCESS!

I used the tips on this site and got a FULL refund. Here is what I did to recap.

I said that I was billed yesterday. I said that I met someone through the site (true, but also not confirmed). I said that I thought I had three days to refund and the CS rep said that was for the initial policy and that those conditions didn’t apply. I said that I emailed them a month earlier asking to freeze my account (she didn’t have on file, but it was true) and she put me on hold. She then came back saying she could give me a two month refund but I would be billed for the current month (around $49.00 or something). I asked for a full refund for I was satisfied with the service and I hadn’t been online in some time using their services (true). She put me on hold again. She said I would be granted a ‘One Time’ full refund for the total billed amount (around $109.00). I was given a reference number and I was told the entire amount would be refunded within 7 days.

I was firm with my requests but also very polite.

    There you have it!

  18. (NOTE to my last comment made on 07 Sep 2010 at 4:58 pm)

Since I had stated that I had met someone through their site they send me a ‘conditional’ refund… tricky buggers. I had to give the name and contact information of the person I met. This was obviously to compile success stories but also to verify honesty. I’m not sure if they seek verification on his end, but none-the-less be prepared to have to prove you met someone through the site if you state it being so.

  19. They make 250 million dollars a year and have been profitable since 2004, and they give you, a satisfied customer, a hard time with your $109?

I added a new section to the article, “Does the three-day cancellation apply to extensions or renewals?” that might help you.

I am interested in the “conditional refund” email they sent; Can you please post it? Post it after you get your refund, of course, if you want.

by eharmonyblog on Sep 8, 2010 at 4:36 am

  20. The first time I called, they lied and said I was only entitled to half of my refund. ( I had not used eharmony for some time and had noticed the autorenewal charge came through on my credit card this morning.) After reading this blog, I called back and notified them I had done research and knew I was legally entitled to a full refund since I had not used the service at all during the renewal period. They then refunded the remainder of the charge.

by anonymous on Sep 22, 2010 at 8:07 am

  21. I simply told them that this 90 dollar charge would cause me financial hardships and she didnt ask any other questions, offer a sicounted refund or anything, 89.99 back into my account.

by Josh on Sep 25, 2010 at 12:02 pm

  22. I used the line, “I’m actually 17 and my mom found out.” HA! I’m 24!!! The customer care rep did it in about 5 seconds flat. SUCCESS!!!!! :)

    by Slipaloo3 on Sep 29, 2010 at 3:24 pm

  23. I told them that I’m not emotionally ready for dating, and that while I thought I was – it was due to the pressure from friends who set up the account and I went along with it. The rep told me that there are articles and support for getting back into dating (probably assuming I’m having cold feet). I simply followed up with the ‘ I saw my therapist and he also confirmed that I’m not ready for this- I have a lot of issues to work on.’ However, quite the opposite, and simply I’m just not interested in dating right now.

  24. . . . my refund was issued immediately.

by Diana Kay on Oct 14, 2010 at 9:38 am

  25. I got the run around at first, and even had to resort to raising my voice, and asking to speak to a supervisor. I was told the supervisor couldn’t come to the phone, but they were given permission to give me a refund. The whole time they were saying “we’re going by policy”. They were quoting me their 24-hour policy when my initial subscription didn’t even end for another 34 hours, and they had already charged my account for renewal, even though I canceled more than 24 hours before the subscription was supposed to end.

by Alex on Oct 18, 2010 at 12:21 pm

  26. Full refund…Asked for a courtesy refund, didnt get into discussions but she told me it was not refundable… I asked if there was anything she could do for me (3 times) .. she put me on hold and offered 50% , then I asked if there was somebody elsw I could speak to get a full refund , on hold again and then .. she told me it would be fully refunded !! YEEEEEAAA!!

by gina on Oct 20, 2010 at 12:59 pm

  27. Called for a refund had to wait on hold for a bit but once I was through I said that my friend made the account because she “hated my finance”.. told the rep “I’m getting married in a few months” and she took down all the photos/info.. cleared the account.. and full refunded me! Thanks guys!

by LynnBee on Nov 5, 2010 at 11:22 pm

  28. Got my automatic renewal email this morning. I called for a refund, on hold, was told it wasn’t possible, I quoted the civil code you mention, on hold, was offered the 50% off, I said no, on hold, was finally offered the full refund…as a one time only offer. Ugh. I hate them for being such jerks about it. Thank you for giving me the ammunition I needed to get my refund.

    by ravenswood419 on Nov 21, 2010 at 8:06 am

  29. Thanks so much for this website! The phone number worked great, I was connected to a rep within a minute, and my account was successfully closed with a full refund (within the 3-day period) five minutes later. I can’t stand when companies deliberately hide their contact information and just give you the runaround – I think resources would be better spent creating a product that’s more acceptable to their customers, rather than devoting them to retaining customers against their will!

  33. Just so incredibly glad I read this. They auto-renewed me today and charged my card today so I was able to get credit but not after them telling me everything above including that it only applied to my initial subscription. I’m not even sure where/how I got on auto-renew, but I did wonder why I wasn’t getting tons of emails to renew. Thanks everyone. EHarmony is NOT for me.

by Kim on Jan 7, 2011 at 2:22 pm

  34. Thanks so much for your information. I took the time to check you out before I signed up for eHarmony in case I wasn’t happy with the site. Needless to say, I wasn’t satisfied and eligible for a refund because I called within 3 days. What’s the deal with the MUST HAVES and the CAN’T STANDS on their guided communication? Anyhow, Tiffany at eHarmony went through her “script” as I expected, but thanks to you all I was ready and I should receive my refund in 7 to 10 days.

by Susan on Jan 9, 2011 at 5:02 pm

  35. I canceled within 24 hours of signing up and had great success. The agent did give me two counter offers, but I just clearly and firmly said that I realized I wasn’t ready to date yet, she was really sweet and refunded me immediately. I’ve heard great things about EHarmony and would like to try it again at some point, but I just realized that I’d jumped the gun too soon.

  36. I payed for a 3 month subscription. I think it was a spur of the moment thing. I called within 3 days of paying, the phone call took a little over 6min to get my money refunded. They asked why I was leaving, said don’t give up. Offered 2 or 3 different deals, put on hold twice for total of 9 seconds.

    by M on Feb 10, 2011 at 1:58 pm

  37. I called within 3 days, told them that I was happy with my service and met someone, and did not want the auto renewal– I let them know that I had not used the website other than logging in to look for a phone number to cancel earlier that day.

The rep first tried to tell me that the full refund is only possible on initial purchase, but offered to charge me only for one month. I told him politely that I was aware that by law, I have 3 full days to cancel my account for full refund. I told him I would be happy to speak with his manager. He “checked with his manager” for a moment, then came back, closed my account (not canceled) and gave me a full refund. Perfect!

    Thanks!!

  38. thank god i checked my bank account today . I realized that EH charged my bank account $108 apparently for “renewal fees”. I don’t know how I ended up getting an automatic renewal, when I never confirmed that I even wanted one. Nor did I even receive an email about it. OH THAT’s RIGHT- I’m suppose to REMEMBER from 3 months ago that if I didn’t cancel YESTERDAY that they’ll do whatever they want & charge my bank account. I immediately called the bank & put a dispute claim through. Then I found EH’s phone # from this site & called. I let the rep know that I haven’t used the site in over a month & the deal I had with EH was every OTHER month I should have been charged the $45 fee for 6 months. So that would be 3 payments & I should have know when my bank account was charged 3 months consecutively. Well as I was saying- the rep didn’t care that I haven’t used the site in over month he kept referring to the “terms & conditions” and the tone he used was as if I was stupid one. He even had the balls to tell me I was wrong about the deal I made with them. I was so pissed that I slipped & said bullsh!t!! He then made me say “that going forward I would not to cuss”… No he really did! I then put my “rainman” hat on & just started repeating myself ” I WANT A REFUND!” Back we go to the terms & conditions AGAIN. So I slipped again & said bullsh!t & he hung up on me.. LOL… So you better believe I called back & spoke to another rep & she said that he put the refund through.. Then why the hell did he give me such a hard time??? SO in the end I should be receiving my refund in 7-10 business days. Keeping my fingers crossed that I don’t have to do this again in 10 days.

by Anonymous on Apr 14, 2011 at 2:23 pm

  39. I just called and it’s been 4 days since they charged my “non-notified” renewal fee. I told him I’d lost my job 2 weeks ago, and thought I’d cancelled it. He apologized for my hardships and refunded the full amount in less than 2 minutes. Just be really nice, and they’ll refund the charge.

    by equestrian14 on Apr 20, 2011 at 10:42 am

  40. Cancelling mine was pretty tricky. I signed up for a year’s worth, and after 5 months I knew it wasn’t for me. I have high standards and (no offense to religious online daters) eharmony isn’t exactly the cream of the crop.

Anyway after reading the rediculous lies we had to come up with for a full refund, I went with the “I’m 17 and my mom found out.” (I’m 22 :) At first I received a dude bent on denying me the refund insisting too much time had passed. He said he could send me an email on how to contact management and “work something out”, a.k.a complete bullshit.

So I went with this article’s advice and hung up on him. I was gonna go the spamming route (“Hey you look like you could give good head, care to show me?”) but he had already cancelled my account! I couldn’t contact anyone and I thought I was screwed.

I called back hoping I could at least settle for a partial refund on what was left of my membership and after speaking to another spokesman–one far more timid–after I mentioned I was 17 I got a full refund!

My advice for people is if you’ve been with eharmony for awhile, lying about your age isn’t a guaranteed refund. The whole process was a hassle but if I had to redo it I’d try going with the spamming approach.

Might as well have fun with it right? ;)

  41. Had to wait on hold for twenty minutes to get a person, and got offered the 1/2 refund quoted the 3day rule stuck to my guns, and was put on hold then given full refund but it may not post for 10days — really did think I’d turned off the autorenewal when I went to month to month. Thanks for this website, though, otherwise I’d have accepted the half refund.

  42. I told them I was 17-years-old and they refunded the “automatic renewal”.

    Thanks!

  43. Just called and told them that I had returned with my partner of 8 years (not !) and the rep was very polite and agreed to cancel my subscription and provide a full refund. I had enrolled 2 days earlier….

  44. I told them my rent check was going to bounce because of the “automatic renewal” taken out of my account, I was refunded half the amount. the part about the rent check bouncing is 100% true, I have since cancelled all usage by e-harmony, but I still have membership til Oct.

  45. I had great success with my credit card company. Even though I didn’t have all the great card perks that one may have, they were happy to give me my money back. When I called my card, they were super helpful, explaining that they were on my side against eHarmony. They immediately gave me my money back (temporarily while they investigated). I never heard from the card company again, but a few months later, they e-mailed me telling me my credit was permenant and I never paid anything for my eHarmony subscription (which I only used for about 3 weeks and then I stopped recieving matches). Try working with your credit card company, you’d be surprised as to what perk this may fall under.

  47. I came across this while looking for their number. After reading the comments, I called and told the rep that my lesbian partner are getting back together. I was on the hetero site. He told me that they would stop billing me, but would not give me a refund. I explained that I had $200 in the bank and my electric bill is $230. I asked again, he put me on hold, then refunded 100% of the charge. The only bad news is that everything I told him was true. Thanks for this site! It saved me a bundle!

  48. Whoo hoo go Margie! For getting her lesbian partner and her money back! Haha your writing was very entertaining. Best wishes with everything.

  49. Interesting this. I also was given “a one time courtesy” refund when I threatened to report them to interpol after SIX matches they sent me were really from a Russian organised crime syndicate ripping of vulnerable women in exchange for the promise of a green card. Of course I had weeks of being blanked completely by them before I did this.

  50. My account was extended inadvertently via Paypal. apparently I had used PP that day and didn’t log out. It was accidental. I immediately cancelled membership, and placed a dispute w PP. I tried calling but call center was down. I was refered to chat online. the rep stated that since a dispute had been initiated w PP I couldn’t follow through w EH. I had to repeatedly ask him to close my account to be within the 3 days limit. He said that per their Terms and Conditions once a PP dispute had been initiated they can’t give me a refund. I asked him to copy and paste it. He didn’t because, like me, he couldn’t find it in their T & C. I followed up w a phone call. That rep was friendlier, confirmed that account was closed. Waiting for Pay pal dispute resolution result. Thanks for your tips and phone numbers.

  51. Definitely believe that which you said. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the web the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed while people think about worries that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people could take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks

  52. Thank you thank you! Have not used the service in a long time but got an auto renewal. Called same day… in fact it was posted to my bank acct as tomorrow’s date. Was offered 50% refund. Told her that I have financial difficulties and need the full amount. She denied me a few times offering 50% and access to the account for 3 months. Told her I don’t want access to account… only a full refund. She kept stating “typically” they don’t offer full refund. She said I should have known it would auto renew. Told her they don’t send email reminders and I haven’t used the service so I wouldn’t know. She put me on hold a few times. I was getting ready to ask for a supervisor when she came back to the call and gave me full refund. Thank you foe the tips! Otherwise I think I would have stopped at 50%. Thanks again!

  54. Wow I am soooo un imeressed with e-harmony, I have been un-able to log into my acount since the first week I have gotten it, and I have tried repeatedly to get a response from customer service about it. They are taking my money not providing a service and I am livid, do I have any hope of a reimbursment from these people?!!! Watch out everyone they are a bunch of scam artists out to take your money, and I am not a rich person I live pay cheque to pay cheque, screw u eharmony.

  55. Found this site after calling eHarmony to get a refund on my auto renewal £59.85 which I was notified of by email this morning.
    • First the rep gave a big spiel and said the charge was non-refundable
    • I said that was not acceptable and she suggested she could reduce the charge to 1 month ~£40 and cancel my auto renewal
    • Again I said that was not acceptable and quoted the 7 day cooling off period in the UK Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000
    • She said that did not apply to auto renewals and that there was nothing she could do, so told her that was not true and asked to speak to her supervisor
    • She came back after “speaking to her supervisor” and informed me that they had given her the authority to provide me with a 50% refund! She was quite surprised when I said no :) and asked to speak to the supervisor myself
    • After a lot of “my supervisor is busy with another customer” the rep was magically able to offer me a full refund and cancel my account.
I thought I needed to blog my experience to help others with the eHarmony illegal resistance, but was happy to find tis blog saved me the effort. I am now wondering if it is illegal for a company to lie about government legislation designed to protect its customers.
With consumer skills like this I can’t understand why I still don’t have a girlfriend!

  56. Thanks for the advice! Refused the 50% refund saying that $100 is a lot of money for me and that’s why I signed up for payments to start with. Also told them of my success, which is true :-) then they gave me the full refund. I definitely recommend being nice about it… worked for me!!!

  57. I just got refunded. Signed up on Jul. 1 for 3-month subscription. I ended receiving only 1 match for a whole week, and just 2 matches the week before! Raised the issue over the customer service email, and the answer I got back was telling me to increase my age gap. Waited for a few day, still no match, raised the issue over email again, and was told to called the 800 number. I called, expressed my frustration. The guy told me what he can do is to give me 1-mth extra which I denied because I didn’t need their additional 1-month (lack of) service. The guy switched his tone telling me that he tried everything I could, and it is me who is being difficult. I hanged in their and kept my position that eHarmony failed to deliver. Finally, he caved in, updated my subscription to a month subscription, and refunded the rest of the money. Money isn’t the big deal for me, but the upsetting part was that eHarmony failed to deliver what they advertise, and, when you voiced your concern, they tried to make it sound like it was your false for being too “specific” in your choice of mate!!!

  58. Called to cancel the 6 month subscription I had paid for …within the 3day period. When the why I was cancelling I said “Just this morning I found out that I’m expecting”… the customer service rep said “oh..um, Congratulations… can I put you on hold for a minute”… she did and when she came back she said I was issued a full refund! Who knew it could be that easy!?

  59. Thank you very much for this information. Since it is going to take 10 days for a refund to be processed IT WORKED! Use your pointers and made them very personal. Eharmony was very nice, polite and immediately refunded and cancelled my membership. Without this site we would be most lost and broke..

Thank thank you, Ms no name

  60. very dodgy company. i accepted the partial refund due to my time restrictions on chasing the full amount. So i guess they win, but at least got something back.
