eHarmony upgraded its help system today from RightNow Technologies. This was why the help system went down for maintenance this morning.

What’s new:
- Cleaner design
- “Answers others found helpful” section
- Displays ‘Date Updated’
- Shorter URLs with no funny characters
- It’s now accessible to search engines
Sorry, fellas, their toll free phone number no longer shows up, even to paying members.
Benefits
- The larger font is easier to read.
- Customer Service staff can post shorter links in their emails to members or on eHarmony Advice.
The Internet Wayback Machine will record their help answers for posterity. It’s evidence.- Official help answers will hopefully come up when users search Google for answers. Well, maybe not as the first result, though, because that’s our spot.
- Consequently, fewer people will leave messages on this blog requesting that this blog close their eHarmony account. Well, maybe not.
Great job, eHarmony!
UPDATE 6 November 2009: Once again, search engines banned from eHarmony Help System
Oops, gave praise again too soon.
It turns out that almost right away eHarmony put a “search engines, keep out” sign so that the help pages are to never appear in search engine results.
A normal company would want to help its customers find the instructions they need to use their product through the Internet’s search engines. As you can tell, eHarmony is not a normal company.
UPDATE 20 November 2009: Whew, search engine ban removed. Wayback Machine still banned.
While reviewing EHB’s search engine rankings on keywords like “close eharmony account”, I found that eHarmony has removed the ban on Google, MSN, Yahoo and Teoma.
