Hey, did you receive double-digit new matches today?

Near the end of last year, eHarmony announced that “only after a non-subscribed member clicks on the subscribed members profile does the subscribed member receive the non-subscribed member’s profile.” We wrote about it in this article:

In that discussion in EHA:

Also, to answer ScottK’s question, it is only after a non-subscribed member clicks on the subscribed members profile does the subscribed member receive the non-subscribed member’s profile. So just logging into eHarmony or even viewing another member’s profile is not enough. — eHarmony Advice Host Renee, dated 17 January 2009

Is this still true?

Today is the first day of the Free Communication Weekend. Paid members, did you get more than 10 matches today?

Or did good ole’ eHarmony backpedal again?

Nope. Liars. The same steady seven a day I’ve been getting since I subscribed again for a month. Maybe there will be another round of matches later on in the day? Doubtful.

I’m lucky to get 1 or 2 matches per week, so I’m not expecting double digits.

I’ve been a paid member during all the free weekends this year and I can tell you how many matches I got during every one of them. It’s easy to use Gmail to count the ‘new match’ notices on a given set of dates.

Feb 09 FCW: 107 matches in 4 days
Mar 09 FCW: 36 matches in 4 days
May 09 FCW: 28 matches in 4 days
Jul 09 FCW: 21 matches in 3 days
Sep 09 FCW: 36 matches in 4 days

I of course typically get 7 matches a day, too.

EH reverted a long time ago. The change was gone by March. It didn’t bring in enough business.

I think the change that Renee said brought a new set of complaints. People who were receiving a steady stream of matches as a non-member experience a dramatic decrease in matches after they paid.

What a big bait-and-switch, they said.

This could be why the change was short lived.

    Hi Shelia,
    100% agree with you.

I think thats EXACTLY why they had pulled that change, probably very early on.

I think the change could only work in well populated areas, with a reasonably active (paid) membership base in that area.

ie, if I have a potential base of 2000 matches in my area and age group, and lets say half are paid members.

Thats still 1000 real, live, active members to get sent.
I am not going to complain that I only got half my potential matches.

However, you take a person who lives in a sparser area, who might only have 20 matches out there, and lets say again, half are paid members.
That is only 10 Matches delivered.
Those other 10 “non paying/non active” might actually make a difference to that person, at least in perception. It probably makes a difference in whether said member would pay for another month or not.

Its why I was shocked when EH said they were going to do this.
(As the original quote shows) =)

It definitely is NOT a shocker that they probably removed it too.
