October 21-25: eHarmony US’s Nineteenth Free Communication Weekend (now 5 days)

eHarmony is running one at least once a month, it seems.

Get ready…starting Wednesday, it’s eHarmony’s Free Communication Event—the first time free communication has been five days long! From Wednesday, October 21 through Sunday, October 25, you can communicate with your matches for free and experience the difference of eHarmony. Once you complete our Relationship Questionnaire, we’ll look for your matches based on 29 Dimensions® of Compatibility — like humor, intellect and character.

Official EH Blog, dated October 19, 2009

The last one was September 4-7, 7 weeks ago. They didn’t run one during Columbus Day weekend, but we expect them to run another in Thanksgiving, five weeks from now.

It’s interesting how much they are featuring couples now who met successfully from these events. The people who run free dating sites must be all amused at eHarmony right now.

Tip: FCW participants cannot initiate, accept or reject FastTrack, so don’t initiate FastTrack with them this weekend or communication would be stuck.

UPDATE: Compatible Partners is also part of this US event. It’s also an UK FCW from October 23 to 25.

I am skeptical if the extra two days will make any difference. I think that folks that know about it and participate are ether going to hang a little closer to the computer and communicate often or they just aren’t going to bother (they were window-shopping to begin with and most profiles are “dead”). I’m still willing to bet that most of the matches I’m going to nudge on Wednesday won’t respond.

Some other thoughts on the FCW:
Previously, I was pushing the idea that they need to include pictures.

I now have researched the counterpoint to that. I have done the past three free weekends that Chemistry.com has offered (roughly on the same schedule as eH and usually the weekend before or after). You actually get to see pictures on Chemistry. However, I had quite possibly the most abysmal results I have EVER seen. Worse results than I have EVER had with eHarmony. No has one responded back. No communication whatsoever. That is pretty bad. They charge quite a hefty amount, too. They revamped the user interface but I guess they just aren’t drawing the crowds. There are some nice features in the user interface that eH could stand to learn about.

Anyhow, I still think that eH should show photos. I renewed for a month to continue with a few matches from the last FCW that seemed interesting from their profiles. Unfortunately, as promising as some of the profiles were, they were unable to sell me when paired with the photos. Having photos would have saved both of us some time and heartache.

One thing I have noticed is that on these FCW it is difficult to log into EH even if you are a paying customer. They effectively block out existing customers because their system cannot handle the added “free” customers.

It used to be an issue but I think they have beefed up their computer infrastructure such that I haven’t had any problems getting logged in during FCWs.
