I would like help from an expert on EH Matching algorithms

I’ve read all the posts I can find on this site about the EH matching algorithm.  Is there anyone out there who’s dug deep into it and would like to help me with some setting tweakings?  I’ve done some experimentation of my own and found some things, maybe two or three or four heads would be better than one.

I don’t want to get into a complex discussion here.  Please email me at redtops at yoohoo duh you-know-what.

Well, the real experts are the programmers at eHarmony, since they know the actual algorithms. :)

This site is about sharing, so if you have some observations that we haven’t found yet, we would like to hear about them…

“eHarmony Compatibility Matching System Protected by U.S. Pat. No. 6,735,568 ”

    But, there are 2 patents.

The US Patent 6,735,568 B1 Filed Aug 10, 2000 Date of Patent: May 11, 2004
“Method and system for identifying people who are likely to have a successful relationship”

The US Patent 7,454,357 Filed Feb 13, 2004 Date of Patent: Nov 18, 2008
“Method and system for identifying people who are likely to have a successful relationship”

The words “scientific” or “scientifically proven” do not appear in the patents.

They do not disclose *exactly* the matching method.

    I remember Dr. Buckwalter said/wrote on Nov 14 2007
    “…………
DrBuckwalter (Pasadena, CA ): Today, we measure all 29 dimensions in a statistically valid manner and we also have ample evidence that each dimension is critical in relationship success.
The exact algorithms we used to match users based on these dimensions are extremely complex and they really are our ‘secret sauce’ so we don’t talk about specific details.

Moreover eHarmony uses its guided communication process as an appendix of its main matching algorithm. The guided communication process is designed to narrow even more the field of persons you give a better chance of getting along with, and also it is also useful for feedback purposes in order to try to improve the whole matching algorithm.

Anyway eHarmony can only reach “as low as” 3 or 4 persons high compatible per 1,000 persons, so in a 10,000,000 persons database, there are as many as 30,000 to 40,000 persons to contact/date, that means a whole precision less than anyone could achieve by searching on one’s own!

The main problem of eHarmony is in the Big5 to assess personality and Dyadic Adjustment Scale to calculate compatibility.
eHarmony can not prove its matching algorithm can match prospective partners who will have more stable and satisfying relationships than couples matched by chance, astrological destiny, personal preferences, searching on one’s own, or other technique as the control group in a peer_reviewed Scientifc Paper.

eHarmony Labs is only a smoke curtain.
eHarmony is only supported by a big marketing budget and not by serious scientific evidence.!

This is a follow-up. Did you get any response, redtop? Did anyone help you?

No, I never got any help. I’m mostly interested in the “Match Preference” screen, rather than the settings from the questionnaire.

redtop, I think this site is your best guide. The second best is the “Using eHarmony” forum in eHarmony Advice, but the regulars here have been with EH longer.

I noticed that EHB’s Match Settings strategy page hasn’t been updated in ages. Did you find some things that might be useful to add to it?

SG is right. This site is all about sharing. What would be uncomfortable if we have the discussion here, where everyone can participate?
