Feature request: Like offering to buy someone a drink

Allow subscribers to offer to pay a small fee so an interesting match that hasn’t subscribed yet can communicate with the subscriber. The non-member would only be able to communicate with the member that made the offer. This would be like buying someone a drink in a bar.

I’m sure eHarmony would make money if they did this – and a lot of attractive women will get a nice free ride out of the deal. But to be the person offering? You’ve gotta be pretty desperate, IMHO. After all, they haven’t shown enough interest to pay the bill…

It would have to copy the drink analogy exactly. The drink recipient should have to click “accept” on the “drink” first before the site charges the fee. Otherwise, this would create a new set of dissatisfied customers.

Personally, I don’t think it’s desperation. People still buy people drinks in bars, and send flowers to their crushes.

I think it is a waste of time to implement it. They should fix the other bugs on the site and make the matching algorithm better.

You could not only give someone a free membership to communicate with an interested paying member but possibly PAY them on top of that and I’ll bet there are some folks that would still not respond to communications. On the free dating sites (OkCupid, etc.), I send messages and don’t get replies or even a courtesy “no thanks” and it doesn’t cost those members anything.
