Find New Matches- How Thorogh is the Search?

When I click on “Find New Matches”, does the supercomputer at eHarmony run my profile against the entire database? Does it run my profile against the entire database every day as long as I have matches turned on? I’m just wondering if maybe it only checks 10 or 20% each day or time you click “Find New Matches” for technical reasons or maybe to deliberatly dribble out the matches over time.

Each day, eHarmony sets you up with up to seven matches. Pressing the “find new matches” button doesn’t actually spend any time searching for new matches – it just moves up the next set of seven for that day if it hasn’t delivered them to you yet. It’s a Pavlovian release for impatient people.

Chris: read some of the other entries in this blog to find out more about how the matching system works.

Just a Guy: Find new matches is not just a Pavlovian release. If you change your match parameters, it will trigger the site to re-run the search based on your new parameters and give you new matches, so it is not just a “dummy” button not connected to anything. If you never change your match parameters, it isn’t as useful but sometimes will find a match that has joined since you last got your regularly scheduled batch of matches.

Khalid: Widen your search parameters. If you don’t get anyone, CALL customer service, not e-mail them. If you are not helped to your satisfaction, request a refund, obviously where you live, the service will not work for you.

i worked for eharmony. there’s a database process that runs at 23h30 every night and generates N matches (called DB pairs) for each individual that has matching enabled (where N = ~9 – (nr of open matches in your profile)).

You can’t get anymore matches once the job has run and pairs have been created because that’s how the management want to keep you engaged. There’s a lot of junk in the system (read: girls that you don’t want to match with). Trickling them through to you a few at a time keeps you on the edge of your seat until the next day. It’s really pathetic actually, when compared to other dating sites where you can filter through the inventory at your leisure.

Mr. mu, what years were you working there? I’d like to get an idea of how recent your information is.

For example, it is easily shown that, for subscribers and nonsubscribers alike, those who are waiting for responses from tens or hundreds or thousands of matches STILL get 6-8 daily matches.

Let us know, please, and welcome to EHB.
