Want to remove your credit card number in eHarmony? (Part 2)

UPDATE: The site system won’t let customers change credit card numbers in the middle of “3 part payment” subscriptions. Here are options and strategies.

Yesterday’s news item is a cause of fear and I had to do something to remove my credit card number from eHarmony’s servers — at least their main servers.

Of course my card number is already in eH’s computer data backups somewhere since the number has been there for seven weeks. There’s little I can do to remove my number from those backups.

I realised that the only way for the Account Settings screen to remove my number is if I replace it with another credit card number. So, I need a dead yet valid card number.

I searched the web and found this list on Graham King’s website:

Mastercard

5444074816731135
5513884568718262

VISA 16 digit

4929373628567514
4024007165383497

American Express

341415794734812
371200375462600

Discover

6011414731974520
6011179482312473

See other numbers in Graham King’s site.

Feel free to replace your number with these dead yet valid numbers. The stupid Account Settings page doesn’t check whether two or two million people gave the same card number. Hmph, I even set it to renew automatically — thus giving me brownie points when Customer Service sees it. Ha! I foiled your plans, Dr. Warren!

In case you use PayPal as your payment option, here is how to do the same for it:
    1) login to your PayPal account
    2) click “Profile”
    3) “Pay List” under the heading “Financial Information”
    4) Click on eHarmony in the merchant list
    5) Click “Cancel” on the line “Status”

    For good measure:
    6) Go back to eH and change your billing options back to an invalid credit card number as detailed above

This is how you can tell that most eharmony users have no computer literacy. Yes, any google result with eharmony listed in it can delete your account or has access to your credit card information. Who knew the computers at the inner city center for children with down syndrome didn’t block eharmony from their computers?

The CC companies have test numbers for people integrating their systems to use which will pass the algorithm to check them as valid numbers but don’t actually point to a person’s account. That is what is listed above.

If your current credit card number on file expires and you don’t enter the new expiration date, it will also fail to charge on the credit card network and your service should not renew. Ditto if your CVV number changes.

You could always change the expiration date and CVV number afterwards to the month before you subscribed.

No valid way to transfer money = no service is mostly what the vendor cares about.

How do I remove my credit card number from the eHarmony database? I tried through account settings, pulled up my current number , deleted it and then tried to replace it with the dummy number. Once I tried to save it however, a message popped up saying I couldn’t change my number on the system and a Customer Rep would be contacting me.
    Help me!
I have no qualms about removing my number because I have already paid for the first month and eHarmony hardly delivers any matches in the second and third months. Waste of money on a 3 month subscription.

Lissa, the site system won’t let customers change credit card numbers in the middle of “3 part payment” subscriptions. If you want to evade your second and/or third payments (because IT IS part of your 3 installment payment agreement with them), then your options are:

    (a) cancel the card number
    (b) fill it to the limit when eh tries to charge the card, or
    (c) call eHarmony and give the rep a dummy number. If you’re lucky, the rep will not verify the card.

if you’re stuck, http://eharmony-blog.com/1858 has additional strategies.

    Dear eHarmonyblog,

Thanks so much for taking the time to give me the information. I do appreciate your time and effort. The CS72MN3T code worked for me but the matches are way off my specifications. I closed 50 of them without any correspondence not because I am picky but these people had nothing in common with my profile. eHarmony needs to review its matching system.

    Dear eHarmonyblog,

Forgot to mention – I will allow the 3 payments to be taken from my credit card but after that, if I continue with them, I’ll look for a one month plan. If there is a workable code for a 30 day subscription in my region, then I hope to find it.

    Thanks again!
