January 1-4: eHarmony’s Thirteenth Free Communication Weekend

Briana Thursday to SundayIt’s upcoming once again, the eHarmony Free Communication Weekend. The last one was November 21-24, 6 weeks ago. Thanks to Tom for the heads up. (He announced it one full week ago, last Tuesday.)

This is a four-day vacation for many people, so I am hopeful. The one last year-end was a complete disaster.

Paid members, get ready to nudge your matches on Thursday and move them along communication until Sunday. Free members, get ready to sneak in your email address and meet the love of your life free-of-charge.

Tip: FCW participants cannot initiate, accept or reject FastTrack, so don’t initiate FastTrack with them this weekend or communication would be stuck.

UPDATE: Oh what liars they are. The Free Communication Weekend is “only valid in Canada”, “only valid in the United States” and “only valid in Australia”. Have a look:

I got an “Advance Notice of a Special Event” email today saying, “Free Communication Weekend offer valid only in Canada.”

Right after I had customer service reset the questionnaire so I could retake it I started getting a lot of matches. I thought that was the reason for all the new matches. But maybe all those matches are because of the free communication weekend. I got 75 matches yesterday and 14 today.

Paxton: I got the same message. It says only valid in the US if you live there.

SML: Holy cow. That’s an insane number of matches to get in one day.

    FCW 13:
    30 total over 6 days
    10 closed me
    3 communicated
2 to OC and fail upon exchanging pictures
(…and women say it isn’t all about appearance…)

    FCW 11:
47 total (same # of days)
    14 closed me
    6 to OC

Where is that huge % increase we were reading about? That’s a 33% decrease, fellas.

The interesting thing was that there were several matches from late Nov/early Dec (they were only a couple weeks old) that “woke-up” upon nudging that didn’t respond to initial communications when I was a subscriber but none got to OC. Well, I got to send one a first message (and 2nd questions) with my e-mail but haven’t heard back. Of course, that one has to be the MOST promising match I’ve seen in quite a while. Then you start to wonder if you have offended them by including an e-mail address, especially if they are a subscriber…

IMHO, eHarmony = fail this FCW based on the hype that has been fed to the press. They just did all that because they were actually falling behind on memberships and were trying to pad their bottom line, just like all the retailers slashing prices.

Some more data for FCW 13, giving things adequate time to “settle”:
    * Of the 30 matches I got, 20 eventually closed me
    * Of those 20, 4 matches communicated

    * Of the 10 remaining, 9 never responded back
    * The one that remains responded after the FCW, so we end up picking things back up during the upcoming FCW

So, in this sample, we find that 2/3rds of matches are “active” and the other 1/3 got baited to the website but didn’t bother to do anything with it.

    The results are still abysmal.
