The eHarmony settlement: They called for a victory party, but nobody came

When I write about eHarmony controversies in eHarmony Blog, I enjoy finding and presenting all sides. (The second to the last was the Weddingbee acquisition.) I enjoy leaving it up to the reader to pick a side and make an informed decision. However, on last week’s controversy, I hit a wall.

After going through over 400 of 580 eHarmony settlement newreader entries, there was one point of view I couldn’t find. The more I read the more it became obvious that that one point of view is not THERE at all:

… the point of view of someone who AGREES with the settlement.

Yes, everybody is unhappy about it. The sentiments range from annoyance to disgust. Nobody, and I mean, nobody, is calling it any sort of victory. No one agrees with eHarmony decision, unless you count the Attorney General of New Jersey:

“I applaud the decision of eHarmony to settle this case and extend its matching services to those seeking same-sex relationships,” said J. Frank Vespa-Papaleo, director of the New Jersey AG’s Division on Civil Rights. –NJ AG

Instead, in the last few days, the general populace scorned Dr. Warren, eHarmony, the plaintiff Eric McKinley, the gay agenda, LGBT rights groups, and CompatiblePartners.net, the bastard website. Pick a target and fire.

I want to be stood corrected.

I have been considering discontinuing my subscription when it expires next year, because I am not getting any results at all. But this is enough reason to definitely do it. I hope eHarmony feels the sting of this terrible decision.

Agrees with? I think that is too broad to get a good picture since there are so many dimensions to it.

Taking the decision out of this specific situation, I do not like the legal aspect of it placing myself in the shoes of a business owner.

I am not sure how well the separate website is going to work given that the original research was based on heterosexual couples and how well that research data translates over. I think it is a reasonable solution to the overall problem to appease the masses. I think that last part is the key: “the masses”.

I feel like a lot of the the discussion I’ve seen on here are from folks that have no vested interest in the actual company (i.e. current or potential customers) and are mainly coming it at it from the LGBTQ community or religious circles.

I think that many of the current users probably don’t care one way or another since we are overall frustrated with it as it stands and if the potential users from the LGBTQ community who originally were up in arms about being rejected knew what a PITA it is for us, they might not even have bothered pursuing lawsuits. It is not the panacea the eHarmony marketing machine has portrayed it. I will enjoy hearing the LGBTQ community complain when they find out how badly they have been hoodwinked into thinking that finding a partner is as easy as clicking a button.

It will be interesting to see what sort of Quantcast numbers the new site will get over time and if there will be significant numbers of subscribers or if the whole thing was just for the sake of getting equality.

    Let’s summarize:

Before: Fags not allowed = No Fags there.
After: Fags boycott = No Fags there.

    Net = NO FAGS THERE.

Net Result: eHarmony.com will MAKE MONEY from Fags OR be rid of Fags,
and EITHER WAY eHarmony.com WINS and Fags LOSE.

    Bwahahahahahahahaha!!!
