There are hundreds upon hundreds of websites on the Internet describing eHarmony. The tiniest review website for online dating sites has at least an article on eHarmony. Is this because it’s the “#1 relationship site”? We don’t think so.
The real reason is eHarmony’s aggressive affiliate program. Except reputable news sources, the majority of these sites have specially-designed links that give commissions to the site owners when someone clicks them and signs up to eHarmony and, within a certain period, pays to subscribe to the service. Check them out when you visit these sites.
If it’s not a banner like this (note the time travel goof):

it’s a hyperlink like these two:
- http://www.qksrv·net/click-1283933-2484318
They’re as ubiquitous as the TV ads!
eH has been paying finders fees to many such websites since 10 May 2001 through a large Internet affiliate advertising network called Commission Junction. To invite affiliates to apply, eH says:
eHarmony Offers the Highest Payout in the Matchmaking Category at Commission Junction!
… eHarmony is now offering a retail item for you to earn commissions on; Finding the Love of Your Life series (a 12 CD coaching set). Make $75 for every referred sale of this popular series!
eHarmony offers the most generous performance based commission scale in the Matchmaking category at Commission Junction.
So what are the commission levels? How much does a site like www.imetmyloveineharmony.com earn from each referral? Here are the figures for your reference:
- ActionCriteria: Completion of personality profile
Commission: $0.50 USD - ActionCriteria: Publisher Refers a purchase of a 1 month eHarmony Membership
Commission: 40% (currently $23.98 USD) - ActionCriteria: Publisher Refer a purchase of a 3 month eHarmony Membership
Commission: 35% (currently $38.80 USD) - ActionCriteria: Publisher Refers a purchase of a 6 month eHarmony Membership
Commission: 25% (currently $43.42 USD) - ActionCriteria: Publisher Refers a purchase of a 12 month eHarmony Membership
Commission: 30% (currently $75.42 USD) - ActionCriteria: Earn commission when you refer a sale of the Finding the Love of Your Life Coaching Series CD set.
Commission: $75 USD
(The “Action Referral Period” is 45 days. This means eHarmony remembers the affiliate and eventually pays them when you, after being emailed newsletters, asked, “Are you a skeptic,” reminded, nudged, and paraded by matches for six weeks, subscribes to the service.)
Now you know why many “review” sites strongly advise that you join for 12 months upfront. Now you know why a search for “eharmony review” in Google retrieves 400,000 hits. Who doesn’t want $20 to $75 bucks?
(Our advertising policy: We are 100% unofficial and 100% free from affiliate links to dating sites. If other online dating review site works hard to persuade you sign up to a service, we won’t. (Some even push the higher-commissioned 1-year subscription, which we hate.))
