Regular readers would find it highly unusual to hear us say this, but if you are planning to join eHarmony at all, you only have until one week from now (October 4) to register a new account with eHarmony UK and avail of its 90-day free membership.
The 90-day membership giveaway is only because eHarmony UK opened its doors barely three months ago on 4 July 2008.
Why hurry?
Hurry, because after opening in Canada, Australia and the UK, the company has run out of English-speaking countries in which to open a country-specific site. According to Wikipedia,
- The third largest (percentage of Anglophones) country after the UK and the US, Ireland, has only 3.8 million English speakers. Thus, I doubt there will be an eHarmony Ireland.
- The largest Anglophone populations (number of English speakers) after the US are India, Nigeria and Philippines, all third world countries. Per capita annual income in all of them is below $3,500. Thus, I doubt eHarmony will open specifically in any of them.
- China has 300 million Anglophones, but 91% of 1.3 billion read Mandarin. If I know how the minds of eHarmony management work, I expect that eHarmony China is in Chinese.
See, there isn’t any more. We’ve discussed earlier in this blog that eHarmony’s website code is impossible to translate unless they do a total rewrite. (Unless there’s a very-top-secret multilingual eHarmony in the works, I don’t know. Francais? Espanol?) In short, don’t expect another country site to open and ergo another 90-day free membership promo.

(You need to provide a United Kingdom address to get the free membership. After that you can migrate anywhere you want.)
We all have one week, guys. Act now.
